Event Name:
Habitat Restoration at Mt. Sutro
Location: Woods Lot at UCSF
Address: 100 Medical Center Way, San Francisco, CA 94143 (map)
Date: Sat, August 4th    9:00 AM to 12:30 PM
Staff:
Manager: Scott L (email) Coordinator: Victoria C (email)
(RSVP)
Description:

One Brick will join the Mt. Sutro Stewards to make improvements to the trail network and perform selective habitat restoration in the UCSF Mount Sutro Open Space Reserve. All volunteer days include both habitat and trail work, and there is always something for everyone to do.

We'll help with trail improvements and construction within the 61 acre Reserve. The trails provide greatly improved access to the habitat restoration areas and Mt. Sutro's hidden features. The habitat activities include removal of invasive species from select restoration sites and work in the Rotary Garden at the summit.

Other Info: Meet at Woods Lot located at 100 Medical Center Way. It is halfway up the hill from Parnassus and is only able to accessed from Med Center Way when you enter from the Clarendon side.
Parking is available here ONLY during our scheduled activities.

Hand tools, equipment, work gloves and refreshments after the event will be provided.

Be sure to bring water, sunscreen, sturdy shoes, and the normal precautions against poison oak exposure (i.e., long-sleeved shirts and long pants).

This event is rain or shine. Bring raingear if needed, it can be wet even on a foggy day. As always Mt. Sutro Stewards will reward everyones hard work with food and beverages at our social gathering at 12:30.

Organization: Mt. Sutro Stewards

The stewards began their grassroots volunteer group in 2005 after several of them discovered a hidden pre-existing trail during survey work on Mt. Sutro. The realization that this trail offered accessibility to one of the more remote sections of the 61-acre open space as well as a beautiful route to the summit became reason enough to organize and lobby UCSF for permission to restore the trail. During the process of gaining permission, the California Native Plant Society, the Trail Center, and Nature In The City have pledged support and provided expert assistance during the initial volunteer days. In the Fall of 2007 the Stewards and the One Brick volunteers efforts were recognized by San Francisco Beautiful, and the Stewards received a Beautification Award for their contributions to the Mt. Sutro Reserve.
