Event Description

Without the efforts of thousands of volunteers, many usable medical supplies would be discarded because of production overages, procedural excess and regulatory requirements. In fact, about 7,000 tons of medical supplies are discarded in the US each day. At the same time, economically disadvantaged people all over the world are receiving inadequate care or even dying from lack of these same types of medical supplies. As a volunteer, you can truly make a difference by helping us keep these supplies out of landfills and putting them in the hands of those caring for the poor.

What we'll be doing

One Brick will be helping to build a computerized inventory of donated supplies so that hospitals and clinics that serve the poor around the world can order what they need.

Volunteer will be responsible for sorting and boxing donated medical supplies. The supplies are sorted into broad categories and then into boxes of specific items.

What you should know

No medical background is necessary. The sorting is not physically strenuous but we do spend much of the session on our feet. Closed-toe shoes are required and we recommend layers of comfortable clothing as our warehouse facility can be dusty and the temperature varies according to the weather outside.

Where to meet

Inside the Volunteer Center.
